EXCLUSIVE: An Official Look at the Takashi Murakami x BBC Capsule Collection
Touting artwork from the Japanese luminary’s “Ensō” series.
This past Wednesday, Billionaire Boys Club teased its incoming partnership with Takashi Murakami. The new limited edition capsule marks the second collaboration between the acclaimed Japanese artist and Pharrell William’s renowned streetwear label. Now, the duo has just released the official images of the co-branded range that is comprised of a crewneck sweatshirt in heather grey and tees wrapped in monochromatic hues. The capsule boasts artwork taken from Murakami’s “Ensō” series. As per BBC:
Ensō, which means circle, is a famous motif found in Zen painting. It symbolizes emptiness, unity, and infinity in Zen Buddhism. Traditionally, the circular motif is traced with a skillful, singular brush stroke. Murakami’s execution of the circular motif is created using spray paint, which is then digitized and silkscreened over his signature artwork of flowers and skulls. The capsule introduces BBC’s iconic helmet within the Ensō, mirroring the spray paint technique. The capsule was produced on BBC’s custom tee and sweater blanks, made in the USA and Canada, respectively.
To celebrate the forthcoming capsule, BBC will alter the interior of its New York City store. The transformation consists of a Kaikai Kiki-themed garden to aptly complement Murakami’s flower pillows displayed at the SoHo location. In addition, the first 100 customers to buy a collaborative piece will get mini flower plush keychain free of charge.
The second Takashi Murakami x Billionaire Boys Club capsule is set to drop online and in-store on March 25.
