Watch Stormzy Break Down the Sound of Grime in Video Interview
He also reveals his “political heroes” and more.
Fresh off the release of the new “Cold” video, Stormzy breaks down his “unstoppable rise to greatness” and takes part in a luxe photoshoot for the latest Hunger cover story. The grime star details his entire backstory, opening up about everything from his “political heroes” to growing up on Channel U and the origins of his name. “I was in Year 8 and everyone was trying to find their nicknames,” Stormzy explains. “You had ‘Younger Killer’ and ‘Angerman’ and ‘Tiny Verbz’ and all these silly names and you just tried to find the wackiest one. I thought Stormzy sounded pretty cool.”
For the photography portion of the Hunger feature, Stormzy is dressed in clothes from adidas, Christopher Raeburn, Riccardo Tisci and more; Rankin, Stevie Westgarth, Maria Asadi, Sarah Stanbury and Kristina Minkova lead the way with regards to the entire effort’s creative direction.
