Facebook has signed a multi-year licensing deal with Universal Music Group for users to upload music by UMG artists to their videos on the platform, as well as Instagram and Oculus. This comes in the social network’s effort to combat its major copyright infringement issues.
Facebook states this will be the first step of many, as it also intends to introduce “music-based products” on the platform. According to sources, Facebook is also in talks with Warner Music Group and Sony Music Group to allow their artist’s music to be uploaded legally as way. The social network began this initiative back in 2015, at the time it was a discussion incorporate music within its services. In recent years the initiative broadened to battling copyright infringement issues.
