The Red Bull Illume competition is one of the most recognized photography contests in the world of extreme sports. This past Thursday, a throng of adventure sports photographers from across the globe convened in the Art Institute of Chicago — waiting to hear if their images were one of the 11 category winners for this year’s bout. The varying categories range from “Close Up,” “Energy,” “Enhance,” “Lifestyle,” “New Creativity,” “Playground,” “Mobile,” “Wings,” “Spirit,” “Sequence by Sony,” and the “Masterpiece.” Germany-based photographer Lorenz Holder nabbed the throne with his visual portraying BMX rider Senad Grosic doing a nose wheelie over a bridge in Gablenz, Germany. All in all, it took a squad of 53 judges to meticulously sift through over 30,000 images.

Take a look at select images above and head over to Red Bull Illume’s official website to learn more about the contest.
