DJ Esco Talks Finding His Way, Creative Process & More
We sit down with the man behind the likes of ‘56 Nights’ and ‘E.T.: Esco Terrestrial.’
If you’ve ever been to Las Vegas, then you know how pivotal Drai’s is to the city’s never-ending, unparalleled nightlife. While most clubs still cater to the house and EDM crowds, Victor Drai‘s eponymous spot has carved out the perfect lane for itself, offering the City of Sin a steady dose of hip-hop while playing host to everyone from FUTURE, Big Sean, and T.I. to Chris Brown, Fabolous and Trey Songz. And, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know there are few in the game right now hotter than DJ Esco.
Long associated with venerable ATL strip joint Magic City, the young Atlanta-based producer has been a go-to for Future from the get-go, helping the beloved auto-tuned emcee’s rise to fame through spins and co-signs during his sets at the infamous club. In the years since, Esco has become one of the names that pops up most in conversations about southern hip-hop and the current Atlanta sound in particular — right up there alongside everyone from Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Migos to Metro Boomin, Zaytoven and Future Hendrix himself. They don’t call Esco “the coolest DJ in the world” for nothing.
So it was only a matter of time before Esco made his way to Drai’s for a performance in the Cromwell’s 70,000-square-foot rooftop space. Luckily for us, we were on hand for the show and caught up with Esco as he shed light on how he found his way, his creative process and why Vegas is the perfect spot for him to bring his energy. As Esco puts it, “the match is already there, I’m just ready to light the fire.”
Check out our chat with the DJ about his weekly Thursday performances at Drai’s above, and, for more Esco goodness, be sure to give the Future-hosted E.T.: Esco Terrestrial a listen ASAP.
