John Boyega of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Set to Star in 'Pacific Rim 2'
Going into production later this year.

Legendary Pictures has signed Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega for the lead role in Pacific Rim 2. The sequel to the 2013 film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and will begin production later this year. Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba’s character from the Guillermo del Toro-directed original. Del Toro will still be on board producing the sequel. “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox,” the director commented. “The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The world saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”
