Wizards of the Coast announces a massive Star Wars expansion for Dungeons & Dragons arriving in the summer of 2027

The sci-fi tabletop rollout features a standalone Tyro Squadron campaign paired with a newly adapted Core Rules book

Players will navigate unexplored corners of the galaxy as a secret Rebel crew avoiding the primary franchise heroes

Wizards of the Coast announced a sweeping Star Wars expansion for Dungeons & Dragons, scheduled for a retail rollout in the summer of 2027. This sci-fi crossover kicks off a tabletop release period dubbed the Season of Rebellion. Executives unveiled the expansion during a Friday panel at New York Comic-Con 2026, releasing official promotional artwork to the public. The adaptation taps into decades of official and unofficial Star Wars tabletop roleplaying modules to expand beyond traditional fantasy settings.

At the center of the release is a standalone tabletop campaign titled D&D | Star Wars, Tyro Squadron: Adventures. To support the mechanical shift from high fantasy to deep space, Wizards of the Coast is delivering a concurrent D&D | Star Wars Core Rules book. This foundational text adapts the Dungeons & Dragons system for a galactic setting, though the publisher has not yet revealed specific class changes or gameplay tweaks.

Narratively, the campaign drops players into the Original Trilogy timeline as members of a secret Rebel crew. Participants in Tyro Squadron fly missions and explore unknown corners of the galaxy while taking the fight to the Empire. Crucially, these exploits take place away from the primary stories of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo. Promotional artwork indicates that Darth Vader may still be involved in the overarching storyline.

Additional details regarding the Dungeons & Dragons expansion will arrive in April at the Star Wars Celebration convention. The event runs from April 1 to April 4, 2027, in Los Angeles, ahead of the summer release of the Season of Rebellion.
