Gerry Judah Pays Tribute to BMW's Centennial
With the largest sculpture in Goodwood Festival’s history.
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed is celebrating the 100th anniversary of BMW and the event’s resident sculptor, Gerry Judah, paid tribute to the German automotive company’s storied history with the biggest central structure in the festival’s history. The sculpture features the 328 Mille Miglia Roadster, the Le Mans-winning V12 LMR, and the Brabham-BMW BT52 F1 car, all shooting outward and upward along clean, rays of track that resemble vapor-trails.
The festival’s founder, Charles Gordon-Lennox, had the following to say about the massive piece:
It feels a bit risky and a bit dangerous; it’s by far the biggest [central structure] in terms square footage and in terms of engineering it’s very critical. The tolerances are literally millimeters.
The work will be on display throughout the annual event.
