Influencers Chime in on the Extensive History of the Levi's 501 Jean
How did a workwear staple go from outlaw to en vogue?
Levi’s latest documentary offers a history of the 501 Shrink-To-Fit selvedge denim jeans, from its origins in Western workwear to its integration into pop culture. The documentary is broken down into three chapters — Work, Style and Rebellion — and each explores a different facet of the 501’s history. Narration duties are handled by folk legend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott with influential appearances by Viceland’s own Eddie Huang, Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins, conceptual artist John Baldessari, designer Mark McNairy, Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean, and many, many more. Ernest Greene of Washed Out handled soundtracking duties, for good measure.
