Summary

Levi's Vintage Clothing is releasing a limited reproduction of its historic 1942 501 Jeans

The model captures a brief wartime transition period featuring a buckle back cinch and heavyweight Shrink-to-Fit selvedge denim

The unwashed denim drops August 13 at Levi's Store Kyoto and via lottery on the official web store for 66,000 JPY

Levi’s® Vintage Clothing has officially announced the limited release of its archival 1942 501® Jeans. Recreated directly from the brand’s historical archives, the reproduction honors an elusive transitional reference produced for only a brief period prior to wartime material rationing simplifications.

The 1942 Levi’s model serves as a bridge between early heritage elements and updated wartime garment specifications. Built with a thicker “Shrink-to-Fit™” selvedge denim, the design retains labor-intensive pre-war features that were eventually phased out, led by a classic back cinch fitted with a metal buckle.

The construction accurately replicates period-correct craftsmanship, incorporating an inverted yoke seam, hidden rivets, single-needle arcuate pocket stitching, and a classic two-horse leather patch. The signature single-sided capital “E” red tab details the back pocket. Each pair is delivered unwashed in its raw state, complete with a reproduction of the original paper flasher and decorative dollar bill insert.

The Levi’s® Vintage Clothing 1942 501® Jeans will be available in limited quantities at Levi’s Store Kyoto starting August 13, alongside a lottery release hosted on the brand’s official online store for ¥66,000 JPY.
