For its latest timepiece, the UK’s Mr. Jones pays homage to Japanese video game producer and Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto with the “Sun and Moon Miyamoto” Watch. Sporting graphics inspired by the world of Super Mario, the timepiece sees imagery of the cartoon unreality that is Mario’s landscape while once again telling time in its own unusual way. Bearing a crescent-shaped cutout to indicate the hours, the design represents 12 hours with the time running from left to right; at 6 a.m. the run rises on the left side of the dial before climbing in the sky, reaching its apex at 12 p.m. noon before descending to the right, ultimately changing from day to night at 6 p.m. The moon then follows the same pattern.
Coupling the world of Mario with the “Sun and Moon” designs popularized in the late 1600s, Mr. Jones’ Miyamoto timepiece is now available online for £175 GBP (approximately $272 USD).
