After staging its No More Tears, I’m Lovin’ It exhibition inside Perrotin’s New York gallery at the tail-end of 2022, art-fashion collective MSCHF is putting the final touches on its second Perrotin solo presentation, Art 2.

Set to open on April 6 in Los Angeles, the exhibition includes “a series of installations bound by the theme of a second act,” per the official description. “In Tinseltown, where sequels seem inevitable, MSCHF takes on the role of superhero and villain.”

Among the standout pieces, MSCHF has replicated Pablo Picasso’s Le Poisson wooden sculpture 249 times, recasting it as a school of fish that lines one wall. The brand’s Drop #84 Key4All, which saw a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser cross the country to reach Truckee, California, with thousands of different drivers taking the wheel, will stand as a relic in the gallery, under the guise of Public Universal Car.

Elsewhere, the collective will celebrate its viral Big Red Boot, with a series of Bootlegs, or images of the shoe fitted on hairy legs. As part of MSCHF’s handbag exploration, Microscopic Handbags are minuscule iterations of luxury accessories that can only be viewed with a microscope. Made with 3D printing based on a two-photon polymerization in liquid resin, the five works nod to signature bags from Bottega Veneta, Gucci, Hermes, Jacquemus and Telfar.

Last week, MSCHF sent out invites to the exhibition’s opening, which arrived in the form of edible AirPods. Notably, the campy snack came inside a bag that feature the Apple logo with a few bites taken out of it.

“Spoiler alert: you are likely to laugh out loud,” the presentation notes conclude. “Be glad this art collective maintains a safe distance from the rules dominating the art world.”

MSCHF’s Art 2 exhibition will be open from April 6 to June 1 at Perrotin Los Angeles. Take a look at some of the pieces featured in the show above.
