Last month, audio and tech specialists Marshall returned to the annual SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. Marking its second year at the cultural showcase, the brand hosted “Marshall Funhouse” – a vibrant three-day event with a curated line-up of global artists performing at the festival’s participating live music venue Parish.

On the second day of its music scheduling, Marshall turned the spotlight onto a selection of artists from its record label including South London-born musician Kid Bookie. Known for blending high-energy rock with hip-hop, the rising star has garnered a cult following enraptured by his proclaimed “genre-splicing” sound as well as his notably eccentric character and show-stopping performances.

As he takes the stage at SXSW – one of many festivals that Kid Bookie is slated to perform at this year – the artist gives Hypebeast an exclusive look into how he gets in the zone for gigs whilst making the most of Texas along the way.

Following a brief check-in with his band, Kid Bookie gets into the day’s outfit comprised of denim jeans, a hoodie, and chunky boots in his signature dark palette before heading to the local Mexican joint Vera Cruz. The Austin favorite serves up fresh, classic Latin American on-the-go bites that also proved to be a popular spot with festival goers across the city. As well as food, it would be remiss not to get into the cowboy spirit in Texas with the state’s heritage boutiques supplying classic western get-ups. After refueling, Kid Bookie heads to Allen’s Boot where he tries on a selection of studded, black stetson hats and snakeskin boots to assimilate into Austin life.

As the sun sets, the artist arrives at Parish where the Marshall takeover is in full swing. In the surrounding area, swathes of crowds are checking out DJ sets, themed experiences, and previews of the brand’s unreleased products whilst inside, the main event is taking place. Keeping the energy alive after Dinosaur Jr’s performance, Kid Bookie shows no sign of slowing down as delivers an electric performance that had fans head-banging to his classic tracks “Game” and “Stuck in My Ways.”
