Today, CELINE is perhaps most associated with either Phoebe Philo or Hedi Slimane depending on who you ask (and whether you write it Céline or in Slimane’s all-caps accent-free variation). But the luxury fashion brand actually began life as a children’s shoe boutique, with founder Céline Vipiana only branching out into womenswear, shoes and fragrance over a decade into business. Since LVMH purchased the brand in the ‘80s and hired creative directors like Philo, Slimane and Michael Kors, it’s become synonymous with minimal, but glamorous womenswear and covetable bags.
