‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Launches on Mobile Today
The iconic game from 2013 has been fully rebuilt for iOS and Android by Feral Interactive.
Tomb Raider‘s 30th anniversary celebrations show no signs of slowing down. Alongside the forthcoming feature film starring Games of Thrones’ Sophie Turner as the iconic archaeologist Lara Croft, one of the franchise’s most acclaimed entries has just arrived on mobile.
Originally released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Tomb Raider has been fully rebuilt for iOS and Android by Feral Interactive – the London-based studio behind some of the most technically ambitious mobile adaptations including multiple Hitman games. Rather than a pared-back version, this latest release brings the complete original campaign and all the DLC to smartphones and tablets, with visuals and performance optimized for modern devices.
The game retains the cinematic origin story that reintroduced Lara Croft to a new generation, charting her transformation from inexperienced explorer to hardened survivor following a shipwreck on the island of Yamatai. As well as full gamepad compatibility, the new mobile game supports customizable touch controls for both left- and right-handed players, and options including a fixed virtual joystick, or dynamic trackpad for aiming and camera movement that aims to replicate the console experience in a portable format. And, for those wanting a more traditional PC gaming experience, there’s even support for mouse and keyboard – thought this is limited to iPadOS and Android only.
Graphical settings have also been tailored for a range of hardware, allowing higher-end devices to reach 120FPS with improved textures and lighting, while maintaining accessibility across supported models. Depending on your device, there are up to four different settings to choose from: a “Graphics” mode prioritizes visual fidelity over high frame rates; “Performance” does the opposite, delivering smoother gameplay with slightly paired down graphics; and ”Performance Plus,” for select iPad Pro models, takes things further with up to 120FPS. There’s also “Battery Saver” mode, which prioritises battery life by reducing both graphical fidelity and frame rate.
With its arrival on the App Store and Google Play today, Tomb Raider joins a growing list of console titles making the transition to mobile without compromising scope. For longtime fans revisiting the reboot — or newcomers discovering Lara Croft’s origin story for the first time — the release marks another milestone in the series’ anniversary year.
Tomb Raider is available now for iOS and Android priced at £12.99 GBP / $19.99 USD.
