Summary

  • Producer Jerry Bruckheimer officially confirmed that a sequel to the Brad Pitt-led F1® The Movie is in development
  • Speaking to the BBC, Bruckheimer noted the team is “working on a sequel” but offered no specific timeline
  • The original film was a massive commercial success, grossing over $630 million USD worldwide and earning a Best Picture nomination

Following the global box office dominance of Joseph Kosinski’s F1, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has officially confirmed that a sequel to the high-speed racing drama is in the works. Speaking at the annual Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles, the veteran producer ended months of speculation regarding the future of the Apple Original Films franchise.

In an interview with the BBC, Bruckheimer stated plainly, “We’re working on a sequel.” While he declined to provide a concrete production timeline or confirm if Brad Pitt would reprise his role as veteran driver Sonny Hayes, he emphasized that the actor would “of course” be involved in casting decisions. Bruckheimer reflected on the original film’s path to success, noting, “It was a long journey to get the movie made because we had to endure a couple of strikes – but in the end, the movie entertained audiences around the world.”

The first installment, which starred Pitt alongside Damson Idris and was co-produced by Lewis Hamilton, became a cultural phenomenon upon its release in 2025. It grossed over $630 million USD globally and secured four Oscar nominations, including a nod for Best Picture. Bruckheimer expressed his excitement about the critical recognition and the experience of filming the project, telling the BBC, “I never worked with Brad Pitt before and it’s really a thrill to work with Brad.”

Stay tuned for more details.
