McDonald’s is turning its Happy Meal into a crossover between SpongeBob SquarePants and ONE PIECE, a set of collectible toys that reimagines the Bikini Bottom cast as the Straw Hat crew. The tie-up leans on the shared nautical DNA of both franchises, mapping one universe’s characters onto the other’s rather than simply packaging them side by side.
Each toy reworks a familiar Bikini Bottom character into a member of the ONE PIECE crew, starting with SpongeBob himself cast as captain Monkey D. Luffy. From there the swaps run deep: Patrick Star takes on Roronoa Zoro, Sandy Cheeks becomes Nami, Plankton stands in for Usopp, Squidward is remade as Sanji, and Gary the snail is reimagined as Tony Tony Chopper. The roster reaches further down both casts. Additional figures cast Pearl Krabs as Nico Robin, Larry the Lobster as Franky, Mr. Krabs as Jinbe and the town’s longest-named resident as the skeleton musician Brook, filling out most of the core crew across the set.
