McDonald's is teaming Hello Kitty with Godzilla for a kaiju-themed Happy Meal toy collection hitting US restaurants
A teaser video reveals Hello Kitty reimagined in a Godzilla-style headpiece, rising from the ocean behind a tiny Happy Meal boat
Promotional imagery suggests MechaGodzilla and SpaceGodzilla are part of the lineup, though the full roster is still under wraps
McDonald’s is pushing its Hello Kitty crossover streak into monster-movie territory, pairing the Sanrio star with Godzilla for a new run of kaiju-inspired Happy Meal toys. The limited-time collection is set to reach US restaurants on August 18, marking one of the chain’s boldest character mashups yet.
The reveal came by way of a teaser shared by McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin, who set expectations high for collectors. “One of the best collections of Happy Meal toys I’ve ever seen,” he wrote, framing the drop as “Hall of fame collectibles in the making.” His “Cute meets Kaiju” tagline doubled as confirmation of the August 18 launch.
The teaser clip sells the concept with a bit of cinematic flair. A lone Happy Meal box drifts across the ocean in a small boat before a towering figure surges up from the water behind it, ultimately revealed as Hello Kitty decked out in a Godzilla-style headpiece. It’s a playful collision of Sanrio softness and Toho menace, and exactly the kind of visual gag built to move collectibles.
As for the toys themselves, McDonald’s is keeping most of the details locked down. The chain has not confirmed how many pieces the set will include, or whether additional Sanrio friends and Toho monsters will make the cut. Promotional images do point to MechaGodzilla and SpaceGodzilla being in the mix, though there’s no word yet on genre mainstays like King Ghidorah, Mothra or Rodan. That leaves the full lineup as the biggest open question heading into the launch.
The collaboration continues a busy stretch for Hello Kitty at the Golden Arches. The character previously fronted a Yu-Gi-Oh Happy Meal in 2024 before returning for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover the following year, making the Godzilla team-up her latest high-profile guest spot.
The Hello Kitty x Godzilla Happy Meal is set to arrive at participating McDonald’s locations in the US on August 18.
