Melitta Baumeister Teases a Nike Air Rift on a Chunky Rocker Sole

Melitta Baumeister and Nike are reportedly reworking the Air Rift into a new shoe called the Rift Rocker, set to arrive for Holiday 2026. Early teasers keep the model’s defining split toe and strap intact while reshaping what sits beneath it, positioning the collaboration as an archive pull rather than another running-line project from the New York designer.
Teaser images point to a much thicker midsole with a pronounced curved rocker profile, a clear departure from the low, minimal base of the original Air Rift. Sections of Nike’s classic waffle traction are visible along the bottom, tying the exaggerated new tooling back to the brand’s heritage outsole language.
Above that, the shoe still reads as an Air Rift. The split-toe construction and strap closure that define the model remain in place, though the upper is largely obscured in the distorted artwork used to tease the project, so its materials and detailing have yet to come into focus. A fuller picture should arrive once official images surface.
The move also marks a shift in direction for Baumeister. Her earlier Nike work reimagined the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium, running silhouettes finished with hand-painted black markings over bright orange and green, and both sold through quickly enough that Nike brought them back via a later pre-order. The Rift Rocker trades that running focus for something pulled from the archive, keeping the designer’s sculptural instinct but applying it to a very different base.
