Summary

  • USM Modular Furniture and Symbol Audio debuted a series of HiFi speaker modules designed to seamlessly integrate into USM’s iconic shelving frameworks at NYC Design Week.
  • The collaboration features high-fidelity audio components alongside acoustic-optimizing soft panels, expanding on the brands’ ongoing partnership in industrial-style media solutions.

It’s safe to say that USM’s modular furniture system is now HiFi-compatible with its latest collaboration. USM Modular Furniture and Symbol Audio are taking their partnership to the next level with the official unveiling of their USM-compatible HiFi speaker modules at NYC Design Week

Showcasing the “Wall of Sound” at the Afternoon Light Design Fair in Lower Manhattan, USM and Symbol debuted their innovation in an immersive lounge centered on a complex configuration of speakers within a towering shelving system. Featuring Symbol’s high-fidelity audio components, which are rendered in USM’s sleek visual identity, are offered in 3 sizes: small, large, and subwoofer. The shelves were also featured USM’s new soft panels — an easy-to-install alternative to the classic panels — made of semi-recycled polyester in 10 colors. In conjunction with the speaker integrations, the soft panels also optimize acoustics, as opposed to harsh metal surfaces that dampen sound.

Symbol first collaborated with USM in 2024 with a series of record storage solutions and media stations in the Swiss design purveyor’s signature industrial style. The family-run audio brand, founded by furniture designer Blake Tovin, shared that the father-and-son duo were always fans of USM. “As longtime admirers of USM, it has been an exciting opportunity for us to experiment with the legendary design system through the lens of music,” said Walker Tovin, Managing Director of Symbol, in a statement. “With these pieces, we’ve built sound directly into the USM framework – creating a seamless listening experience without compromising the integrity of the design,” he added.

All Symbol pieces are now available at the Symbol Loft (262 Bowery, Lower Manhattan) and online at Symbol.
