The Yeat x EsDeeKid Collab Is Here
“Made It On Our Own” marks not only the first collaboration from the duo, but also arrives as the first sign of life from Yeat’s ‘A Dangerous Life.’
It’s official; hailing from opposite sides of the globe, Portland’s King Tonka and Liverpool’s latest underground legend have linked up at last in a collaborative cut that spotlights their effortless sonic synergy.
Marking a marriage of Yeat‘s high-octane lane of futuristic rage-rap and EsDeeKid‘s off-kilter Scouse swagger, the pair’s first-ever track together – entitled “Made It On Our Own” – arrives as a match made in post-SoundCloud-era heaven.
Produced by Lucid and BNYX® signee Mathaius Young, “Made It On Our Own” signals the first sign of life from Yeat’s long-awaited A Dangerous Life. Albeit their debut track together, Twizzy and EsDeeKid move like a well-oiled machine (a fully gassed Tonka, perhaps) over the hypnotic beat.
Coming from two Grade-A sonic storytellers, it’s no surprise that the cut’s energy also translates to the visual. “Made It On Our Own” comes accompanied by a Director X-directed music video, shot entirely on site at Drake’s house in Toronto, formally dubbed The Embassy. Watch closely for cameos from close friends Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams and Lyrical Lemonade leader Cole Bennett.
As the first single of A Dangerous Life, “Made It On Our Own” just might indicate the initiation of a formal album rollout. Last week, yellow cabs appeared in lower Manhattan with a replication of the rapper’s arm hanging out of the trunk, à la Sopranos guerilla marketing rollout, complete with an adjacent bumper sticker reading “LYFE IS DANGEROUS.” This past week, Yeat hosted Twizz City Night at the Portland Trail Blazers game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, handing out bobbleheads and limited-edition merch.
While an official announcement still hasn’t been made, all signs are pointing to a somewhat imminent drop. In the interim, “Made It On Our Own” is more than enough to hold you over.
