MING and Massena LAB Rework Their Honey Collaboration Five Years Later
The 57.09 evolves the original honeycomb idea with more movement, layered sapphire and luminous detailing.
Summary
MING and Massena LAB reunite for the 57.09 Secret Honey.
Three rotating sapphire discs create a constantly shifting “dynamic guilloché” display.
Limited to 125 pieces, it pairs tri-tone titanium lugs with a 50-hour automatic movement.
MING and Massena LAB” are revisiting one of their earliest collaborations with the new 57.09 Secret Honey, a far more elaborate sequel to 2021’s 17.09 Honey and 17.09 Black.
Five years after the original 200-piece collaboration introduced a vintage-inspired honeycomb motif, the two independent names — now fellow members of the Alternative Horological Alliance — have combined both earlier palettes into a single watch. Rather than reproducing the honeycomb literally, the 57.09 transforms the idea into what MING calls “dynamic guilloché,” using three rotating sapphire discs above a dark brown lacquered base dial to create a constantly changing interference pattern. The warm honey tone appears only as the discs move and overlap, giving the “Secret Honey” name a literal role in the design.
Each sapphire disc rotates at a different rate – once every 24 hours, 12 hours and 60 minutes – with individual aperture patterns and luminous treatments in orange-emitting Super-LumiNova and MING Polar White. The 12-hour and 60-minute discs also carry the honey-colored hour and minute indications, while the indices and MING and Massena LAB logos are engraved into the box-style sapphire crystal above, creating a second luminous layer after dark.
Surrounding the display is a 40mm Grade 5 titanium case using MING’s fifth-generation architecture, distinguished here by triple-stepped, tri-tone lugs assembled from nine individual components. Natural titanium forms the outer step, yellow-gold-referencing TiN coats the middle section and rose-gold-toned TiSiN finishes the innermost layer, visually extending the dial’s shifting black-and-honey palette into the case itself.
Powering the watch is the automatic Sellita for MING 330.M2, running at 4 Hz and offering approximately 50 hours of power reserve, with its skeletonized anthracite-coated bridges visible through the sapphire caseback. The case measures 10.17mm thick, offers 100 meters of water resistance and is supplied with both a vachetta-colored goat-leather strap by Jean Rousseau Paris and a black FKM rubber strap, each using MING’s flying-blade tuck buckle with micro-adjustment.
Limited to 125 pieces, the MING × Massena LAB 57.09 Secret Honey is priced at 7,250 CHF (approx. $8,705 USD). Orders open exclusively through MING on October 15, 2026, followed by its public presentation at WatchTime New York between October 16 – 18.
