Jeremy Renner confirmed he will not reprise his role as Hawkeye in Marvel Studios’ 'Avengers: Doomsday'

The actor joked that the Avengers are destined to lose because the production team never reached out to bring him back

The absence follows Renner’s extensive physical recovery from a near-fatal 2023 snowplow accident

Marvel Studios will move forward without one of its original roster members, as Jeremy Renner confirmed he will not appear as Hawkeye in Avengers: Doomsday. The veteran actor confirmed his absence from the upcoming ensemble blockbuster during a recent interview.

Renner did not hesitate to shut down rumors about Clint Barton joining the fight against the franchise’s newest threats. “No, no, no, no. Not in that one,” Renner stated when directly asked about participating in the production. “Doomsday I’m not in, so the Avengers will probably lose, just so you know… they didn’t call me, so it’s their fault. They’re going to lose.”

The clarification arrives despite Renner having previously stated in 2025 that he was eager to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe—whether in a potential second season of Hawkeye or future feature projects—noting he had recovered “more than 150%” following his traumatic 2023 Sno-Cat snowplow accident. While he will sit out the ensemble entry, the actor expressed excitement surrounding the theatrical re-release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
