Milan-based design firm Giorgia Longoni Studio has been tapped to realize the vision of recently opened bar and dining concept MOGO, a Hi-Fi listening bar in the city’s growing Isola neighborhood. The name, derived from the South African Sotho word ‘Mmogo’ for ‘together,’ echoes the convivial intentions of the venue, bringing together socializing, dining, drinking, and Hi-Fi music all underunder one roof.
Giorgia Longoni Studio threads warm tones and organic materials throughout the space, grounding the industrial sensibilities of chrome finishes and raw concrete. The DJ booth is the centerpiece of the space, clad in rich brown wood encasing stainless steel speakers designed by H.A.N.D. Hi-Fi and Sound Metaphors. The speakers are accompanied by another pair with a smoky burl wood finish suspended from the concrete ceiling. Along with terracotta reds found in upholstered seating and drenching the bathroom, aquamarine hues extend from the floors and walls.
Lighting in the main quarter envelops the ceiling and changes throughout the day, displaying bright daylight hues and deeper amber hues during the night. can be adjusted to fit the appropriate mood of the night. Elsewhere, a private enclave separated by curtains is lit by a draped fabric dome shade diffusing a soft light. Artist Andrea Corvino created custom tapestries for the space, depicting expressive masks and animal motifs, further softening the modern and industrial design details.
