Y/Project Lives On With Heaven by Marc Jacobs

The collaboration, which was two years in the making, bids farewell to the brand formerly led by Glenn Martens with signature subversions.

Calling all Y/Project fans: Heaven by Marc Jacobs is reviving the fallen Paris fashion label for a punkish streetwear collaboration packed with plenty of the imprint’s perverse style codes — and it’s out tomorrow, March 25.

“2 years in the making,” Heaven wrote on Instagram alongside the collection’s campaign, confirming that the line is the product (and perhaps the last) of Y/Project’s former creative director, Glenn Martens, who’s now leading Maison Margiela.

For context, Y/Project’s owner, Gilles Elalouf, sadly passed away in June, and the label canceled its Paris Fashion Week show in September while struggling to find a buyer. Martens stepped down as the brand’s creative director at the same time, and after an unsuccessful attempt to sell the label in October, the writing was on the wall. By January, Y/Project had officially ceased operations.

So, Jacobs’ vaulted collaboration with the now-defunct label is quite the surprising (and exciting!) revelation for the Y/Project cult. The line’s campaign, which stars Ken Carson and Alana Champion, sees a blend of both brand’s signatures: shrunken hoodies with dual iconography, ultra-revealing knits, and distorted denim statements, like jackets with ultra-long sleeves and trousers with bunched-up ankles. It’s a nod to all of the subtle subversion that made Y/Project so beloved among fashionphiles, the perfect farewell present for the brand’s younger fans.

The Y/Project by Marc Jacobs collection will become available to shop online on March 25. Take a first look at the lineup in the gallery above.
