New Era and MLB Release the "Sakura Pack" Collection
Flower-adorned Yankees, Dodgers, Padres and Pirates hats, along with a custom New Era logo lockup style.
New Era and MLB have teamed up for a “Sakura Pack” series of sakura-blossom-adorned team hats that salute the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres and also includes a custom New Era logo lockup. Across classic 59FIFTY fitted caps and unstructured, adjustable 9TWENTY styles, the team’s familiar logos are sprinkled with custom pink-and-white embroidery that salutes Japan’s sakura (cherry blossom) season — which usually runs from late March to early May.
Besides the standard team-issue colors like the Yankees’ navy hat and the Dodgers’ royal blue hat, the collection also uses earthy tones across its styles for a nod to its natural inspiration. The New Era-branded styles on offer feature a flowing “NE” logo hit for individuals who aren’t looking to rep a specific squad.
Besides the approaching cherry blossom season, the hats (which are available now) have arrived at an opportune time. MLB is in the middle of its “Tokyo Series,” a four-game set that saw the Chicago Cubs take on the Hanshin Tigers and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off agains the Yomiuri Giants. The Cubs and Dodgers are set to square off on March 18 and 19, games that’ll mark the start of the MLB regular season and see Japanese-born MLB stars like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki take the field.
