Balmain Takes It Easy For FW25

Following a vibrant and graphic spring collection, comfort is now key.

Who said groutfits couldn’t be high fashion? Certainly not Balmain. For the brand’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection, creative director Olivier Rousteing elevated a cozy array of oversized shapes from winged cardigans to slouchy sweaters and, yes, the groutfit.

Comfort led the charge. Diving right into the runway, Rousteing opened with his familiar hooded silhouette, a black swooping sweater paired with a leather peplum and relaxed leather trousers. Despite the casual upper halves, each knitwear piece was accented by formal touches, whether it be a statement gold bangle or a boho-chic pair of slouchy boots. All in all, the high-low combo recreated a true off-duty model look.

Next, the groutfits took center stage. Where the ensemble was entirely monotone, it was diversified by textures including a pleated skirt, embossed trouser, or ruched top. Where the texture was entirely smooth, tangerine accents such as a fuzzy coat or boot did the heavy lifting.

Elsewhere in the collection, glamour still shone through. A zebra trench, a cargo jumpsuit, woven leather, and a striped peplum dress paired with stirrup leggings highlighted Rousteing’s signature eveningwear abilities.

Doja Cat was also seen posing for photos in the front row. The longtime friend of the house and star performed at the Oscars this past weekend in a custom beaded leopard Balmain gown.

After the long haul of awards season, Rousteing reminded us that dressing down doesn’t always have to mean ultra-casual, it just needs an elevated twist.
