NYC-based design studio Astraeus Clarke has revealed the moody interior of its first-ever showroom located in New York City’s Chinatown. The space at 114 Bowery in Chinatown is set to open this month, inaugurated by the Darning Collection, a range of lighting designs utilizing stitched metal tubing.

Establishing their practice in 2022, the young firm has already become well-known for their handmade, customizable lighting fixtures. Originally meeting in Utah during their college years, the partners and co-founders Chelsie and Jacob Starley have created an eclectic space that synthesizes their nostalgic western influences with contemporary flare.

The showroom centers on a raised lounge serving as a platform for communal seating, akin to a conversation pit. Above a mirrored ceiling is adorned with hand-cut stars, evoking the open skies of the American West, and their custom Lenox chandelier, featuring a cascade of staggered globes.

Adjacent to the lounge, a rich mahogany wall is the backdrop for a curation of antique objects, highlighting the studio’s affinity for touches of tradition. Elsewhere, another room features floor to ceiling wine-hued paint, while lustrous black floors ground the space and reflect the metallic furniture and lighting.

Found in the desk chairs, dry bar backsplash and most notably, the Darning lighting collection, the prevalence of chrome counterbalances the warm tones and naturalistic textures that dominate the space. Including a horizontal chandelier, vertical pendants and sconce, the range of new lights is characterized by stitched metal tubing reminiscent of denim stitching and rugged textiles.

Take a look at the gallery above for an in-depth look at the space and a preview of the Darning lighting collection. For showroom appointments interested parties can contact info@astraeusclarke.com.
