Summary
- Tremaine Emory’s Denim Tears and Tyshawn Jones’ Hardies NYC collaborated on a 15-piece capsule collection, dropping on October 17.
- The collection merges both brand’s identities, bringing together Hardies’ skate-rooted aesthetic and Denim Tears’ focus on African American history and motifs.
Set for a weekend release, Tremaine Emory‘s Denim Tears and Tyshawn Jones‘ Hardies Hardware have joined forces for an inaugural collaboration. Bringing together Hardies’ skate-rooted identity and Denim Tears’ exploration of African American history, the collection is a 15-piece capsule that boldly merges the visual ethos of both brands.
Ranging from graphic tees, tank tops, hats, durags, and decks, the graphic-heavy collection reinterprets each brand’s iconic symbols, placing a particular emphasis on Denim Tears’ floral graphics and cotton laurels. Throughout the printed and embellished collection, Hardies’ bulldog insignia and fist-shaped screw icon are intertwined and layered with Emory’s signature motifs.
The core symbol tying everything together is the hybrid “Fist Wreath” graphic, showcased on hoodies and open-hem sweatpants. Among the standout graphics is the “Buff Black Jesus,” which is printed on a tee and a skateboard. Along with a cotton wreath crown, Jesus holds a screw-shaped barbell as a nod to Hardies. Capturing both Emory and Jones’s approach to creating work rooted in their personal experiences, the collaboration situates skate culture in the greater context of Black style and cultural history.
The full Denim Tears x Hardies collection will be available online at DENIMTEARS.COM and in-store at Africa Diaspora Goods in New York City on October 17.
