Nike x Carhartt WIP Has Returned

When Nike and Carhartt WIP first partnered in 2018, it landed as a surprise to many. Bridging America’s top sports gear brand with the country’s trusted workwear purveyor, the release included reimagined Nike footwear silhouettes. Returning this time for an apparel capsule, the brands have produced a lineup of co-branded garments for Nike’s SURPLUS Sydney event taking place this weekend.

First up, Nike has tweaked Carhartt WIP’s OG Active Jacket, applying a burnished, washed-out finish to the classic canvas fabric. In addition to the usual Carhartt tag placement on the pocket, the back features a Nike SURPLUS swoosh graphic. The capsule also features a hooded sweatshirt and a graphic tee juxtaposing a large Swoosh with a branded Carhartt pocket, seen in a bold lime green.

While the limited collection appears to be exclusive to attendees of the SURPLUS event taking place in Sydney, could the partners be signalling a wider revamp of their sorely missed collaboration? The street-focused line from Carhartt, standing for “Work in Progress,” has only ramped up collaborations since it partnered with Nike eight years ago. More recently, Japanese labels Sacai and Junya Watanabe have served as core collaborators, and the brand has even offered Japan exclusives, including a leatherized OG Active jacket.

Given that Converse is owned by Nike, Carhartt WIP’s 2024 collaboration with Converse stands out in particular. Perhaps the Carhartt WIP x Converse CONS Pack was another signal that something new could come from Nike, too. That said, no official communications from either brand have confirmed these speculations.

Last time, the workwear label cast the Air Force 1 and the Air Max 95 in vintage camo leather with hi-vis orange details. Considering that footwear design trends have only accelerated in speed since 2018, one could imagine that a future Carhartt x Nike footwear line-up could lean even further into the utilitarian character with a duck canvas upper. The dream isn’t wildly out of reach — Nike just partnered with Levi’s and NIGO on a washed denim Air Force 3 Low.
