Unboxing: LAIKA Celebrates 13th Anniversary With Nike Air Raid 2 "ParaNorman" Drop
Kicking off theatrical wide release of ‘ParaNorman’ remastered in 3D, LAIKA and Nike join forces to bring the elusive shoe model back from the dead.
As spooky season settles into motion, Oregon-based film studio LAIKA is back with a re-release of the Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated ParaNorman, remastered in 3D with an accompanying short animated film entitled The Thrifting. The short film will appear in tandem with the reimagined 2012 comedy horror film, beloved for its quirky characters and its main protagonist, Norman, a young boy gifted with the ability to speak with the dead. Celebrating its 13th anniversary, the studio revisited its vault to spotlight its collaboration with Nike, gifting 13 pairs each of the highly coveted Foamposite “Weird Wins” and Air Raid 2 “ParaNorman” in a limited-time giveaway that ended on October 13.
Originally released in 2012 as a part of ParaNorman’s promotional wide release, the Foamposite “Weird Wins and Air Raid 2 “ParaNorman” provided the perfect canvas to play with the film’s otherworldly themes. Exclusively unveiled during a limited-time giveaway, these models are one-of-a-kind and extremely rare to see out in the wild. From a design perspective, the striking Air Raid 2 model features a black mesh base enveloped in an eye-catching skeleton motif that wraps the midsole. A cross-strapped bone design, fastened atop the upper with oversized green hardware, adds another layer of dimension to play off the electric laces and matching green interior collar. Underfoot, contrasting neon green nubuck overlays hug the outer sole. Continuing this graphic color scheme, “One World” lettering stamps the heel tag.
As the studio behind Missing Link (2019), Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), The Boxtrolls (2014), ParaNorman (2012) and Coraline (2009), it’s no wonder that the hyper elusive Air Raid 2 “ParaNorman” colorway opts for a playful yet mischievous color design. Its bold design captures the film’s whimsical energy, with pops of neon green to enliven your style expression. Alongside the re-release of each shoe model, the short film The Thrifting will expand upon the universe of ParaNorman, bringing fans an extra dose of comedy-tinged, lighthearted horror.
