Sportswear powerhouse PUMA, who has a division dedicated to golf within its ranks called PUMA GOLF, is challenging the leaping tiger logo of Tiger Woods‘s nascent label Sun Day Red. The Germany company claims that the mark is too similar to its own patented Leaping Cat logo and could lead to confusion among customers.

“Due to the confusing similarity of the marks and the identical, legally identical, or closely related nature of the goods and services of the parties, consumer confusion is likely between the Challenged Marks and the Leaping Cat logo,” says PUMA in the court filing.

The Sun Day Red logo is inspired by founder Tiger Woods and features 15 stripes for every major win from his 28 year career. Upon reveal last February fans drew comparison with the skeletal Arc’Teryx mark and British sports equipment brand Slazenger’s leaping panther. The PUMA emblem, meanwhile, is said to represent the strength, speed and agility of a Puma cat and dates back to 1948 in its earliest form.

The case would go trial in September 2026 unless the two sides are able to reach a settlement.
