Netflix has announced its latest price adjustment, marking the first-ever increase for its ad-supported plan and raising rates across all U.S. subscription tiers. The changes, effective immediately, reflect the streaming giant’s continued investment in exclusive programming and live content expansion.

The ad-supported tier, introduced at approx. $7 USD per month in 2022, will now cost approx. $8 USD. The standard ad-free tier sees a notable increase, rising approx. $3 USD to around $18 USD per month, while the premium plan jumps $2 USD, reaching around $25 USD.

The announcement comes amid unprecedented growth for Netflix, which reported its largest quarterly subscriber gain ever. The platform added 18.9 million new users in the final quarter of 2024, doubling analyst expectations and reaching a milestone of 300 million global subscribers.

This growth surge stems largely from Netflix’s expansion into live content. Recent successes include the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match and the platform’s inaugural NFL Christmas game broadcasts, both achieving record viewership. Original content continues to perform strongly on the platform as well, with Squid Game season two attracting 68 million viewers in its first week of release.

Netflix has also introduced new subscription options, including an “Extra Member With Ads” feature that allows ad-supported subscribers to add external users for approx. $8 USD monthly, comparable to the near $9 USD fee for ad-free subscribers’ additional users.

Despite the price increase, Netflix remains a cornerstone of the streaming industry.
