Junya Watanabe MAN FW25 Is a Nod to the Rugged Gentleman
Debuting collaborations with Levi’s, New Balance, Filson and more.
At Junya Watanabe MAN Fall/Winter 2025, plaid is back. The ideal of the rugged masculine, outdoorsmen iterates the latest collection that was recently shown in Paris.
Immediately setting the tone was the soundtrack of folk country which informs the audience of the looks they are about to see. Stepping out in Levi’s denim jeans paired along with traditional buffalo plaid in the conventional black and red color scheme or the Prince of Wales check, the models were reminiscent of the outdoor camper who enjoys being one with nature. Honing in on a modern interpretation of the lumberjack stereotype, clothing evokes a rugged aesthetic that channels a type of hyper masculinity. Bearded men walked the runway dressed in the latest plaid concoctions along with cowboy hats and paired down canvas chore jackets.
For the true outdoorsy working man, the the collection channels an aesthetic is for the sophisticated, often North American logging worker that borderlines the typical hipster. However, in true Junya Watanabe fashion, the collection merges dandy silhouettes in the form of leather trench coats and militant jackets and overcoats with plaid and canvas chore-like outerwear. Collaborations run high with this collection, seeing Filson strap duffels available and matching well with the outdoorsmen look. A pair of collaborative New Balance 471s grace the runway in navy as it makes its world premiere during the show along with several boat shoe loafers and trail boots. Levi’s denim jeans were also thrown into the collaborative mix.
