Mugler Announces Documentary Ahead of Paris Fashion Week
‘Inside the Dream: Mugler’ celebrates the French fashion house’s 50th anniversary.
Mugler is finally getting its own documentary, one that delves into both the history of the Parisian label founded by Manfred Thierry Mugler, and the maison’s new vision under creative director Casey Cadwallader.
Inside the Dream: Mugler is an hour-long feature directed by Matthieu Menu, the same mind behind Dior’s 2023 fragrance documentary. While immersing viewers in the 50-year long history of Mugler’s boundary pushing couture moments like the “Chimère” mermaid dress, the film will also take audiences behind the scenes of Cadwallader’s SS24 presentation. Never-before-seen archival footage from Mugler’s early days will be presented in conjunction with behind-the-scenes footage of recent moments like Zendaya’s arrival at the Dune: Part 2 red carpet wearing the cyborg-esque FW95 “Maschinenmench” suit.
After handing the reigns of his company over to Cadwallader in 2017, Manfred Thierry Mugler passed away in January 2022. His archive of subversively feminine garments, has made the maison a favorite among the world’s most influential performers like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. Some of his most iconic works travelled to museums around the world for the Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibition, making their final stop at Brooklyn Museum in November 2022.
The day after the film’s premiere, Cadwallader’s Mugler SS25 Womenswear collection will debut at Paris Fashion Week on September 26th at 2:30PM.
The forthcoming documentary will be available to stream in France via Canal+ on September 25, and will become available on Prime Video and other global platforms soon after.
