Studio Lettar Replicates the Delicate Mechanics of Glasses for Seoul Eyewear Store
With a pared-back yet industrial interior.
The characteristics of glasses inspired the details found around the Zeus eyewear store, designed by Studio Lettar.
Located in the Jung District of Seoul, the store provides a new outpost for the 20-year-old brand. Throughout, the architects have created a refined yet industrial-looking interior with a pared-back material palette.
“Glasses are among the most delicate and functional items we wear, possessing structural and mechanical characteristics,” they said. ”They serve a functional role in correcting vision through countless small components and technologies, but glasses also become a sophisticated piece in their own and an element of fashion.”
This description and definition became the foundation for the design concept. Inside, the product is given plenty of room to breathe and is displayed either on wall shelves or on a stepped table snaking through the centre of the store. To ensure the hues of the frames and lenses could be easily seen, the color palette was devised to be “calm and monochromatic”.
“All the glasses display furniture was designed with the characteristics of each pair of glasses in mind,” the architects explained. “The furniture, expressed through various heights, display forms, and finishing materials, harmoniously shows the functionality and design of the space.”
Magnifying mirrors are suspended from the ceiling, nuts and bolts are purposefully – but tastefully – left on show, and a set of speakers are built into the top of the column shelving.
