NIGO x Marc Jacobs Collide on Hero 40th Anniversary Sweater
Literally – paying homage to Marc Jacobs’ Superman Sweater from the 1990s.
For Marc Jacobs‘ 40th anniversary, the label is delivering quite the hero piece to commemorate the anniversary. In collaboration with NIGO, the dynamic duo has delivered a modernized iteration of one of Marc Jacobs’ standout pieces introduced in a 1990s collection: the Superman Sweater.
First introduced in a menswear range from the ’90s, the pullover is reimagined from its initial form. In its modernized form, the sweater is still engulfed in a bright blue hue – though this time, the silhouette crafted from a knit mixture of alpaca and wool. A Superman shield is stamped in the middle with Marc Jacobs lettering sewn on the backside.
Jacobs and NIGO are no strangers to collaboration, first linking up in 2005, for Louis Vuitton‘s Millionnaire sunglasses alongside Pharrell Williams.
The Superman Sweater is the latest delivery in a lineup of special-edition archival collaborations coming from Marc Jacobs to celebrate its 40th year. The most recent collab in the series was with Cactus Plant Flea Market, who teamed up with the label to rework another one of its signature sweaters: the Smiley Sweater from 1985.
