Closer Look at KALMAR's 7-97 C1 Commissioned by Canepa
A wonderfully understated Porsche 993 restomod.
KALMAR Automotive‘s 7-97 C1 has recently landed in the United States, a wonderfully understated restomod of the Porsche 911 993, commissioned by celebrated race car driver and specialist car dealer Bruce Canepa — now offered by his Canepa showroom in California.
The KALMAR 7-97 C1 stands out with its “Triple 4” engine, a 4.0L powerhouse delivering over 400 hp and 426 Nm (314 lb-ft) of torque. This model also features all-wheel drive, a front axle lift system and a ceramic braking system, offering a blend of classic style and modern performance.
Inspired by the iconic Porsche 911 ST of the 1970s, the 7-97 retains its vintage charm while integrating contemporary engineering. The C1, based on the 993-generation platform, benefits from lightweight carbon fiber body panels and innovative aerodynamic enhancements, reducing lift, drag, and wind noise. Inside, the C1 boasts a full leather interior with Recaro sports seats, modern conveniences like Bluetooth audio, rain-sensing wipers and an exclusive KALMAR-designed key with electronic “frunk” release.
Jan Kalmar, founder of KALMAR Automotive, expressed his excitement about the C1’s debut in the U.S., highlighting its perfect fit for California’s diverse driving conditions. Bruce Canepa echoed this sentiment, stating that the car offers “timeless design in every detail, uncompromised quality in every component & surface and performance & drivability for those that want the ultimate air-cooled driving experience.”
With only 12 units to be produced annually, each KALMAR 7-97 is a bespoke creation, reflecting an extremely high level of craftsmanship and customization. Canepa Group will serve as KALMAR Automotive’s exclusive North American representative, showcasing the C1 at their headquarters by appointment. Those interested in catching a glimpse of the vehicle can see it at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, during this year’s Monterey Car Week, starting August 16.
