Having just featured in the 2024 Paris Olympics as USA flag bearer alongside LeBron James, reigning US Open tennis champion Coco Gauff is set to return to New York City with an updated signature New Balance shoe. The Coco G2, announced today, arrives two years after the first signature Gauff sneaker: the CG1. “I had as much fun designing and collaborating on the CG2 as I did with the CG1,” said Gauff, and shoe is in many ways a reflection of her personal taste.

While the CG2 shares a few similarities with the CG1, namely its mid-top profile and retro-inspired design, the new version is influenced by the 550, one of Gauff’s favorite NB silhouettes. The geometric design cues are a nod the architecture of Paris, a city Gauff admires, and the “Power and Grace” oxidized blue and firefly colorway channels the energy of New York City and the US Open. Rounding out the details is a tennis ball appearing on the tongue in place of the 550’s basketball label and the number “Two” inscribed on the right heel tab, the most feminine single digit number. Even more visual interest is added with a variety of textures like the diamond knit mesh around the collar, heel and tongue and the suede overlays on the saddle.

Beyond its appearance though, the CG2 is built to perform at the highest level. The FuelCell midsole, highlighted by a carbon fiber plate in keeping with the current trend in performance footwear, offers efficient energy control while the Ndurance outsole combines slip resistance and durability.

The CG2 will launch tomorrow via New Balance for $170 USD, and those in town for the US Open can visit the Coco’s Court pop-up on August 23-24 for an immersive experience curated by Gauff herself.
