Update: Above the Clouds’ ongoing ASICS GT-2160 series is set to conclude this month as its third and fourth colorways of the sneaker have been prepared to drop this week. Outlined in our initial breakdown below, the duo is back with colorways of “Black/Gunmetal” and “White/Pure Silver” that offer minimalist finishes highlighting the transparent detailing and chromatic tiger stripes leveraged throughout the duo’s series of GT-2160s. Release begins on August 23 via Above the Clouds at a price of $152 USD each. Additional pairs will be made available via select retailers on August 30 to conclude the project.
Original Story: Australian sneaker retailer Above the Clouds’ latest projects with ASICS have revolved around the GT-2160. The duo dropped a “Cream/Shamrock Green” take on the sneaker last October, which was met with open arms by sneakerheads around the world, prompting a follow-up 2024 campaign from the two involving the shoe in three colorways that Above the Clouds teased on Instagram at the end of last year. While the “Cream/Chocolate Brown” iteration just dropped last month, fans have been waiting for their black and white colorways that were shown off previously.
Now, as the year is nearing its final third, a closer look at the aforementioned black and white pairs has been shared. Looking first at the latter, its mesh and synthetic build leans on white throughout, with a semi-translucent section returning to the forefoot. Silver appears at each side of the shoe while also enlivening the tongue and heel branding. As for the black pair, it leverages various gray and black hues across its matching build as silver graces its heel and tongue too.
At the time of writing, neither Above the Clouds nor ASICS have shared when their third GT-2160 drop will be taking place, other than hinting that it will come this year via the Instagram post from late 2023 that is embedded below.
