tinyPod’s Case Transforms Your Apple Watch Into a Vintage iPod

Swapping out the crown for the nostalgic scroll wheel.

Over two years ago, Apple officially discontinued the final product in the iPod lineup, the iPod Touch. The iPod underwent several makeovers over the past two decades, from the first-gen iPod in 2001 to the shrunk-down iPod Mini and the screenless iPod Shuffle.

Even before Apple discontinued the iPod entirely, the last model with a “scroll wheel” was released in 2014 before being replaced by the then-cutting-edge touchscreen. There’s now an Apple Watch case for those who miss the defunct portable music player.

Dubbed the tinyPod, the silicone case looks like a vintage iPod and sits snugly around the Apple Watch after removing the device from its wristband. Beyond merely aesthetic, the scroll wheel on the case corresponds to the Apple Watch’s digital crown.

Rotating through the scroll mirrors the turning of the crown, allowing users to navigate the Watch. The scroll doesn’t, however, include a button so users will still have to use the Watch’s touchscreen to make selections.

The tinyPod retails for $80 USD but there’s also a $30 USD version dubbed the tinyPod Lite, which doesn’t include a scroll wheel – just a plain white silicone case – though it’s likely few users will opt for the Lite as it doesn’t serve any purpose.

Available online now, the tinyPod is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 4 and later models and available in a variety of sizes, including the Ultra 1 and 2.
