Apple’s New Music Hall Turns a Battersea Power Station Room Into a Full Live-Production Studio

Apple Music Hall, Apple‘s new live music venue in London’s Battersea Power Station, is built to function as much like a studio as a concert hall. The 600-capacity room is engineered to let an artist play an intimate set and walk away with a finished recording, a broadcast mix and multicamera video from the same night.
The core idea is closing the distance between a small-room show and arena-grade production. Every seat sits close to the performer, but the backend infrastructure is scaled for a touring act, anchored by a 38-foot-wide stage that reconfigures between a traditional front-facing layout and in-the-round setups. Wrapping the audience is a 48-speaker spatial sound system, positioned all around the room so that when an artist performs in spatial, fans hear the set as a fully immersive mix rather than a standard front-of-house feed.
Behind the stage, the venue operates as a working production facility. Two dedicated recording and mix studios are built to professional standards, allowing any performance to be captured as a multitrack recording and mixed in Spatial Audio, either live or after the show. The camera side is equally serious: the space is hardwired for 16 or more cameras feeding a purpose-built broadcast control room, with infrastructure that runs iPhone video capture in parallel with traditional broadcast rigs. The net result is a single-show pipeline that outputs a Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-ready mix and multicamera video at once, with performances also livestreamed globally for fans outside London.
The architecture leans into its host building rather than fighting it. Apple Music Hall pulls from Battersea Power Station’s design language with heritage brickwork, fluted arches and bronze balconies that echo the structure’s historic oriel windows, while a giant glass wall opens up a panoramic view of the concourse and the River Thames beyond. Apple also used the opening to relocate Apple Music Radio’s London hosts and shows, which now broadcast live from new studios inside Battersea. As Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content, put it, the venue is Apple “supporting live music in ways only Apple can do.”
