Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies have announced the auction of the official 1992 Batman Returns Batmobile Hero Car. The iconic vehicle from director Tim Burton‘s superhero sequel is scheduled to hit the block on November 23, 2026, where it is projected to set a new record for the most expensive movie car sold at auction.
Designed by Julian Cadlow and constructed by Hollywood builder Carl Casper, the vehicle measures 19 feet and eight inches long. Its custom frame was engineered from two spliced-together Chevrolet Impala chassis, topped with an Art Deco-inspired fiberglass body. Key design elements include a jet-turbine-style front air intake, two giant bat wings extending off the rear, and a Chevy V-8 engine paired with a three-speed automatic transmission.
The unit offered for sale served as the primary hero car during the filming of Batman Returns and has been screen-matched across the majority of the movie’s driving sequences. Maintaining its original glossy black finish, the vehicle previously appeared at the film’s premiere and wrap party before being stored and displayed at the Marconi Automotive Museum.
The Batman Returns Batmobile will go up for bidding on Monday, November 23, 2026, through Julien’s Auctions with an estimated sale price between $5 million and $7 million USD.
