Prada SS25 Grows “Closer” to Your Imagination

Hidden details emerged on staple menswear cropped to perfection, asking viewers to pay attention while examining the collision of real and imaginary.

Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons have done it again. The mother and father of fashion joined together to wrap another breakout runway show at Milan Fashion Week, and — if we do say so ourselves — it was a party.

While every season brings spectacular collections, Prada‘s venue always stays the same — honoring its Milanese headquarters with jaw-dropping set designs that pull guests into the unknown. For Spring/Summer 2025, straight-row seating was reimagined with curved benches coursing through the runway, topped with a makeshift house that boomed with techno beats.

For SS25, Prada and Simons did what they do best and reevaulated traditional menswear archtypes with uplifting silhouettes and a luxurious edge. Dubbed “Closer,” the collection blended real and imaginary, asking us to question our perception of time and the objects that define our daily lives.

Details emerged on delicate menswear up close but disappeared the further they walked down the runway. For example, traditional button-downs donned strong chest pleats and folded hemlines, while straight-cut trousers were belted beneath the waist and replaced standard belt loops with buttons to pin your personal belongings. Stripped tees twitched in motion, while others outlined the human form with overdyed segments.

Elsewhere, everyday trench coats were dramatized with wired collars frozen in time, followed by practical zippered trousers ready for flight. Ultra-cropped workwear jackets substituted current oversized trends and allowed for pockets of skin to emerge, contrasted by smooth leather hoodies and bright-hued knitwear with triangular cutouts that mimicked Prada’s signature logo. 18th-century painter Bernard Buffet returned to life on tribute T-shirts with expressionist figures, completing the collection with zipped boiler suits, silver-toed footwear, and color-blocked versions of Prada’s distinguishable chunky loafer.

As the show concluded, Prada and Simons peaked their heads through the doorframe to a standing ovation by fashion fans celebrating another spectacular collection by the powerful duo.
