Best New Tracks: James Blake x Lil Yachty, Megan Thee Stallion and More

As the week in music comes to a close, Hypebeast has rounded up the best projects for the latest installment of Best New Tracks.

This week’s lineup is led by James Blake x Lil Yachty, Megan Thee Stallion and LISA, who released the albums Bad Cameo and MEGAN and the single “Rockstar,” respectively. Also joining this lineup are offering from Channel Tres, Roddy Ricch, Zacari with Skrillex, Devin Malik, wolfacejoeyy and midwxst.

James Blake x Lil Yachty - Bad Cameo

James Blake and Lil Yachty shine on their collaborative record, Bad Cameo. The 10-track album, which rids itself of many of hip-hop’s elements, arrives as a fusion of Blake’s penchant for ambient music and Yachty’s explorative nature.

Megan Thee Stallion - MEGAN

Megan Thee Stallion sheds her old skin on her third studio, album MEGAN. Her first full-length release in two years features guest appearances from the likes of Victoria Monét, Japanese artist Yuki Chiba and Bun B and the late Pimp C, known as the duo UGK.

LISA – “Rockstar”

BLACKPINK’s LISA is entering a new era with her solo single, “Rockstar.” Produced by San Homaee and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, the adrenaline-fuelled cut is reminiscent of early 2000’s J hip-hop with a fusion of modern-day R&B/hip-hop during the bridge. She also seamlessly switches from rapping to singing, showing off her vocal chops.

Roddy Ricch – “911”

Roddy Ricch continues his rollout for his upcoming The Navy Album with the new single, “911.” This follows late May’s “Survivor’s Remorse” and arrives with an accompanying music video helmed by Spike Jordan.

Devin Malik - DEADSTOCK

Devin Malik officially released his debut project DEADSTOCK, WHICH enlists fellow labelmate ScHoolboy Q. “DEADSTOCK is an audible horror film focusing on themes of lust, rage, and comedy, directed by Devin Malik,” the TDE producer-turned-rapper shares in a statement.

Zacari x Skrillex – “FAITH + SIGHT”

Zacari officially announces his debut album Bliss, out July 12, with his latest single “Faith + Sight.” Produced by Skrillex, the TDE staple shares, “After Skrillex first introduced me to BEAM, we got an Airbnb with Wallis and Lane and spent a few days creating. This was one of the first songs we did together. This song came from conversations BEAM and I were having about God, questioning the idea of ‘walking by faith, not by sight.’ Why not both? When BEAM and I showed Skrillex the song, he just hopped on my laptop and added the drums in my Ableton program… it took him like an hour.”

wolfacejoeyy – “finsta/bia”

wolfacejoeyy unveils his double single “finsta/bia.” The Staten Island native croons about being lovesick over static drill beats, and releases the two-pack shortly after dropping Valentino in May.

midwxst - ”GUN SMOKE”

midwxst continues his BACK IN ACTION 4.0 rollout with his latest single, “GUN SMOKE.” He says of the upcoming mixtape, ”It’s a perfect mixture of loud 808’s and confident lyrics that pay homage to the car culture and street racing scene. As a kid, I was obsessed with cars – - from building them on ROBLOX, to playing The Need for Speed video games, until the sun came up – - this obsession helped fuel my creative journey for this project. Similar to the spirit of racing itself – always pushing forward – BACK IN ACTION 4.0 will definitely make you want to put your foot on the gas and never let up, which I don’t plan to do any time soon.”

Channel Tres - Head Rush

Channel Tres’ long-awaited debut studio record Head Rush is here. He enlists an A-list group of guest features including Thundercat, Ty Dolla $ign, Teezo Touchdown, Ravyn Lenae, Toro Y Moi, Estelle and more. “Head Rush marks the transition from me being just a bedroom producer guy to fully becoming this Channel Tres character,” he tells Hypebeast.
