Childish Gambino Announces Release Date of New Single "Lithonia"

Childish Gambino hopped on an Instagram live earlier this week after the release date for his upcoming “Lithonia” single was leaked. Taking to social media to address the leak, the artist also clarified plans for the release of “Lithonia,” going as far as blaming streaming platform Audiomack for leaking the date earlier than he would have wanted.

In the Live, he said that he wanted to create a “fun” experience for fans, having a specific roll out plan for his new project. He confirmed online, “‘Lithonia’ coming out July 2. That got leaked…kinda pissed me off to be honest.” He added, “That’s the reason why y’all don get good shit. For what? It’s not valuable enough, it’s just a single. And I know who did it. Audiomack, f***ing no soup for you. You’re not getting the album now. That’s what time I’m on.” A representative for the Audiomack platform told Billboard, “This morning, we learned that an Audiomack user correctly guessed the URL for Childish Gambino’s already-announced new single, revealing a July 2 release date. The music itself was never playable. We already have a fix in place, which we are rolling out now.”

Other than “Lithonia,” Childish Gambino also said on his Live, “I’m trying to have fun. Because I feel like there’s just people not having enough fun. When I was a kid there was, like, big things that would unite us, and I just feel bad for y’all. I feel bad for some of y’all.” He even added as a nod to the Kendrick-Drake beef, ““Even this year, the most fun we had was from a fight. [It] was a song from a fight, from a rap beef, which I enjoyed every minute of. It was very fun. But still kind of negative in a certain light, I guess.”

“Lithonia” arrives on July 2.
