Watch Flo Milli Perform A New Version of “Never Lose Me” on ‘Tiny Desk’
The rapper rolled out stripped-down iterations of six hit tracks.
Flo Milli is the latest to join the Tiny Desk Concert series as NPR spotlights nine black female artists for Black Music Month. The sixteen-minute video featured Milli paired with a live band and two backup singers for the first time as they performed stripped-down versions of six songs including her hit “Never Lose Me.”
Milli took over the NPR office wearing an Off-White™ mini-dress with flowers in her long hair. The rapper started with a medley of her songs “Conceited” and “Bed Time” and put a rock spin on it, complete with an electric guitar that supported her bars. Milli then moved on to her 2020 hit “In the Party.”
The song that launched her career, “Beef Flo Mix,” was refreshed with a stripped-down version that swapped the backing track with a soothing guitar sound to enhance the song’s flow. Milli continued exploring her different eras as the track “Weak” also from her first album followed.
Finally, Milli closed the performance with a special version of her hit song “Never Lose Me.” The band opted to use acoustic guitars for this slowed-down version while Milli added a new verse exclusive to this performance. “Keep me a Haitian, I love me a Zoe / When I get ‘round him, I act like a h*e / He want a sl*t, I feel like Amber Rose / Yeah, make a b*tch touch her toes / Hit from the back, I want more / N*gga, I love when you choke.”
Tiny Desk Concert has featured various Black female performances this June from legends to up-and-comers. Tems, Lakecia Benjamin, Tierra Whack, Chaka Khan, Kierra Sheard, Meshell Ndegeocello and Brittney Spencer all have put on their Tiny Desk Concerts with SWV still to come.
This performance came after Milli joined Latto and Megan Thee Stallion for a remix of Latto’s song “Sunday Service.” Milli got her own verse on the remix while the trio shared the spotlight in the accompanying music video.
