Lanvin Welcomes Peter Copping as New Artistic Director
Bringing experience from Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta and Balenciaga.
France’s oldest operating couture house, Lanvin, has named Peter Copping its new Artistic Director, effective September 2024. Copping, a graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London, brings extensive experience from prestigious fashion houses including Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta and Balenciaga.
In his new role at Lanvin, he will oversee both womenswear and menswear collections, continuing the brand’s recent transformation that emphasizes radical chic and French sophistication. Regarding his appointment, Copping stated: “Jeanne Lanvin was a visionary of her time whose interests and passions extended far beyond fashion, as do my own. I am extremely honoured to have been chosen as Artistic Director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic house.”
The Artist Director’s illustrious career in fashion began at Sonia Rykiel before he spent over a decade at Louis Vuitton working alongside Marc Jacobs as head of womenswear. He then served as Creative Director at Nina Ricci in Paris and later at Oscar de la Renta in New York. Notably, Mr. de la Renta, who had himself designed for Lanvin under Antonio Castillo, personally chose Copping as his successor. He most recently held the position of Head of Couture at Balenciaga, where he directed the ateliers for the reintroduction of the couture collection. He subsequently took on the role of Head of VIP and Special Projects at the same house.
