BMW has unveiled its latest concept car, the Skytop, a luxurious open two-seater, at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como. The Skytop combines elegant design and dynamic performance, notably paying homage to historic models like the BMW Z8 and BMW 503.

The Concept Skytop stands out with its unique, exotic design, exuding a sporty elegance that complements its muscular stance. This meticulously crafted vehicle features warm monochromatic colors and blends exclusive materials with traditional craftsmanship, both inside and out.

Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design, remarked, “The BMW Concept Skytop is a truly unique and exotic design, in the tradition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It offers a combination of driving dynamics and elegance at the highest level, comparable to its historic ancestors, like the BMW Z8 or BMW 503.”

The exterior design of the Skytop is characterized by its athletic proportions and organic body. The taut, muscular surfaces are defined by a few precise lines, directing the vehicle’s volume towards the rear. Winglets integrated into the door shoulders replace conventional door handles, while light alloy wheels with precise lamellas enhance its unique appearance.

A bird’s eye view reveals the sweeping bonnet, iconic BMW shark-nose design with an illuminated kidney grille and a retracted rear section. A pronounced spline extends from the bonnet through the interior to an aluminum trim on the tailgate, emphasizing the dynamic flow of the silhouette.

The headlights, featuring custom-developed LED units on milled aluminum carriers, utilize the latest technology and boast the slimmest profile available. The rear lights’ flat and defined shape complements the overall design.

At the interior, the luxurious theme continues with leather-finished roll-over bars, side fins, a fully retractable rear window and removable leather roof parts that can be stored in the luggage compartment. The color scheme transitions smoothly from the reddish-brown roof to the muted silver exterior with a chrome shadow effect, crafted by a master painter at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.

In the cabin, brogue-style leather surfaces and crystal applications in the cockpit enhance the sense of luxury and spaciousness. The interior, crafted in BMW Group’s traditional saddlery, echoes the craftsmanship seen in historic models. Under the hood, the Skytop shares engine variants with the BMW Z8, featuring the most powerful V8 engine in BMW’s portfolio, ensuring that its performance matches its design.

At the time of writing, BMW has not shared any details on mass production plans for the model.
