Porsche is gearing up to redefine the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with what will be its electric flagship SUV, currently codenamed the K1 — notably featuring third-row seats for the first time in the automaker’s history. Recently captured spy shots reveal a lengthy SUV characterized by a low profile and modest ride height, emphasizing its unique design that combines space with performance.

Unveiled by Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, the K1 is part of Porsche’s strategic move to target higher-end market segments. The vehicle is expected to be built on Porsche’s innovative SSP Sport EV platform, developed in-house, yet sharing key features with Volkswagen Group’s SSP platform. This collaboration ensures a unified approach to battery cells and software systems across the conglomerate’s brand portfolio.

Anticipated to incorporate technologies from the 2021 Mission R concept, like the high-performance battery, a pioneering 920-volt electrical system and oil-cooled electric motors, the SSP Sport platform sets the stage for impressive performance capabilities, potentially exceeding 1,000 hp.

In addition to its performance capabilities, Porsche promises a revolutionary interior concept paired with advanced automated driving features, developed in collaboration with Mobileye. The K1’s production is set to take place in Porsche’s Leipzig plant, renowned for assembling the Panamera and Macan models, including the new 2024 Macan EV.

While first looks and more details are beginning to trickle in, the Porsche K1 is not expected to launch until sometime in 2027, with other models like the Hybrid 911, EV 718 Boxster and EV Cayenne also in the works — all testaments to Porsche’s push towards electrification.
